Replacing windscreen.

I will be replacing my windscreen at the end of next week. Im planning on reusing the “new” seal I used when the car was painted in 2013. I wasnt present when the screen was removed and reinstalled and didnt see the condition of the foam strip between the base unit and the glass. I’m thinking the foam is most likely in need of replacing. Has anyone replaced this foam lately and have any recommendations on type and dimensions?
Thanks!

I would use a roll of self adhesive draught excluding foam strip for doors and windows from the DIY store. Don't ask me why I didn't use any foam when I replaced my front windscreen. I am sure I had a convincing reason not to at the time. With the benefit of hindsight, I realise that was dumb. In cold wet weather when I turn on the demister the screen immediately mists up much more!

I would add that if you are using draught excluding tape make sure it is closed cell foam such EPDM as open cell foam will retain moisture and promote rust.

Geoff has always been great at sending items immediately, but it still takes 4-5 weeks to get to Canada.

Self adhesive draft excluder is the way to go. I used 24mm x 14mm soft polyurethane closed cell type which is much softer than the EPDM. This allowed the screen and screen vent rubber piece to sit together better. It's also nice and soft so at the ends where the screen rubber comes down it conforms and seals better. Only problem I have, of my own making, is I should have got black or painted it black as I can see it once everything is installed.

Now, any recommendations for alternatives for the rubber that sits in the bottom steel channel if need be?

I dismantled two cars and made one good one. Neither car had the foam as shown in 74Westy's photos. Both had a perished and distintegrating strip of yellowish foam along the leading edge of the formed black piece, and both also had a faded sticker between the tape and the underside of the window. I forget what it said. Something about laminated glass? Anyway, here's an indication of where the aforementioned foam strip went. I have no idea if the glass was factory installed or later replacement by previous owners.
