Renew choke cable only?

2200sc. The choke cable is getting a bit threadbare at the carb end. Casing seems fine, not hanging up or catching. As a quick fix, is it possible to just disconnect at carb and pull cable out, then push new through the outer sheath, or am I (quite likely) missing something? Time to faff around with console and light switch not available to me currently as doing a lot less tinkering, and a lot more driving. Covered around 400 miles at weekend, intend to do a lot more, and not sure how much longer I can torture the remaining strands of wire :)

Hi Mick, imagine it is not that different to a 3500. I did what you are contemplating maybe 20 years ago with no problems. Only “issue” is a plain round choke knob, rather than a hook shaped knob with “Choke” on it and no Choke light reminder.
I probably used a basic lubricant like WD40 at the time and was careful to avoid kinking, ie on encountering resistance withdraw a section and try again. Good luck.

Ah, so the reminder light needs specialness. Damn. I mean, I can live without it, but truth be told it's one of the wee features I rather like!

Mick my new cable arrived last week, I asked about removing the whole thing, and it appears to be very difficult, even with the correct tool - there are electrical connectors in the way. So I'm going to do exactly what you said, pull the inner cable out and feed it through. I'm going to use silicon grease or similar. Soon as I get over this blasted flu. Oh, I forgot to say, I did a test run with a thick Guitar String and it went through Ok!!

That may have been due to my lack of competence and the fact that I tired of fiddling behind the console.

I had a problem with my reserve cable and had to replace the inner - this one is a single solid wire type, so is easier than a multi strand. I silver soldered the wire end into the cabin end knob and with a little fettling it works.

The replacement choke “cable” I used was also single solid wire. Vaguely think it came from K-mart when they used to stock car things.

I have to report a success Mick. I pulled the wire out and fed it through...but take your speaker panel out and the speaker, find the black cable that the choke wire goes through and you have to sort of line them up as you are feeding the wire in! Took a few minutes. I got this one, it's a bit longer than necessary. Locking Choke Cable (Twisted) - 60"
