Removed front rope seal

I have fitted a normal seal on the front of the crankshaft, my question is if the marked part is necessary. I think i have read somewhere that this part can be excluded when the rope seal is removed.

That's an oil thrower and helps keep excessive oil away from the back of the seal, not that there is excessive oil in the timing case.

That's true, so it can stay or be removed it makes no difference, unless you factor in the cost saving by deleting. :hmm: Cynical, moi?

And the extra performance gained by the weight reduction.
Personally I wouldn't refit it with a lipseal .

I did not refit when I fitted new seal in place of rope seal and never had any problems at all nice n oil tight! Yes I read don’t refit.
