my question is can I remove the leather and will it be like the 3500 s steeringwheel?

thanks in advance for the replies!

The leather covered versions will rust if you strip them and don’t keep up with maintenance. I polished mine a few years back and it lasted quite well with touch ups, but it is not the same alloy used in the wood effect rim wheels.
If you do strip the paint, I recommend Renaissance Wax to seal the steel from corrosion. It’s commonly used on machine tools with polished/satin bare steel handles and levers.
Where my car sat there was quite a lot of moisture so in a dryer environment it would fare a lot better.
Also Belgom Alu is a great polish containing wax to seal the bare metal but maintain a transparent shine.

A better idea would be to find a cracked/damaged rim wood effect wheel, and re stitch the leather onto its rim.
They are some grade of stainless and won’t need any maintenance

I think the "wood" rim type was only ever a rare option in the UK, the bare metal spoked wheels were on the 3500S with PAS, and the wheel with the leather covered spokes was on the 3500 auto with PAS. Maybe....

Yes Harvey. The "wood" rimmed wheels were only on the non PAS 4 cylinder models in the US and were all 17". The 16" leather covered spoked wheels I only ever saw on the PAS equipped US model 3500S (Just to confuse things Rover called the V8 models 3500S in the US long before they developed manual 3500S for the rest of the world.)
