Reinstalling Roof - How particular....

Starting to think about refitting my roof panel. Wondering how particular you need to be with the dum dum? Are you aiming to create a seal along the edge (in the gutter) or is the gap big enough that water will dry out fairly quickly. Was thinking that you could run a bead of 2 k body sealer along the gutter as you would if you had spot welded the turret on. I'm not planning on removing it for another 55 years...

The sealing material needs to remain tachy for ever, otherwise you won't ever be able to remove the roof. There is an aweful lot of water running into the gutters when it rains and they do overflow, so you need to make sure the roof is fully stuck and sealed up to stop water overflowing to the inside of the car. The more gloop the better. before starting you need to lay the roof in place and ensure the rear lip of the roof and its mate on the frame sit on each other evenly and there is no crescent gap. Otherwise you'll have a devil of a time getting the rear window seal components together. Its worth doing a test run with the hose or a bucket of water to ensure it's water tight before putting everythibng else back. Inside rear qtr panel is the most common leak spot.

Very, you don't want an annoying leak anywhere, ruining your headlining.

This is how I did it: -

Sparky's winter/spring/summer/autumn work

Used Soudal Butyrub for the seal, and also used it for going round the outside of the rear window rubber between the new vinyl and the stainless surround. It does dry out and go hard if left open to the air, but it's been on there for 10 years now an dis still perfect.
