Refitting rear screen surrounds

20170102_130041.jpg 20170102_130123.jpg Hi All,

After 25 years looking for a decent P6 I eventually found one that had been in storage for 43 years on the island of Tenerife.
One of the things they need refurbishing was the rear screen seal.
New one duly bought from Wadham's.
Problem is - nowhere for the chrome surround to fit into.
Wadham's assure me it is the correct one, but it hardly fits into the channel and there are gaps at the corners.
Has anybody else had the same problem, or do I have the wrong rubber seal?

Thanks,
Clive

Hi Clive, welcome to the forum! If I remember correctly (Its been a while!) Your best bet is to fit the seal to the glass before fitting to the body. Then use the screws on the bottom of the screen to gently lift into place. In the two photos you've posted it looks like the screen isn't fully up in position yet. If you can find some rubber lubricant and use it on the body side of the seal you should find it a little easier to fit. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice. That is exactly what I did, but the problem is that I have nowhere to put the stainless steel surround on this seal.

I will try to post pictures of stainless mouldings on base unit/ windscreen apature area without screen fitted.
Clive.

3rd The large slot fits on base unit flange.
Hope you can make it out as the mouldings shown are not off this car and in a filthy condition.
Clive.

No probs,
Just make sure mouldings are fully home on base unit before fitting screen with its rubber attached on glass.
Good luck.
Clive.
