Reference numbers for Heritage Certificate

Hi,
I am applying for a Heritage certificate and they are asking for as many refences as I can supply about the vehicle. I have ordered a manual for my vehicle but I am a little bit impatient as a person in general so I am appealing for your help. I want to know where I can locate the following

I am looking to provide:
- the VIN / Chassis number
- the Body number
- the Engine number.
I am also open to any suggestions of other information that might help me. get a comprehensive response from the Museum to get the most for my 52 pounds. I am not too tight to shell out the extra thirteen pounds for adding a picture but I am too embarrassed to include any pictures of the vehicle in the state that it is in at present.

My vehicle is a Rover P5B Coupe 3.5 Litre V8.

Many thanks, Kim.

Chassis number is on a plate screwed to the 'A' post of the front passenger door shut.
Engine number is either on the block behind the left hand head or the face by the dipstick.
The body number I can't remember, perhaps wiser heads know.

Hi Colin,

I may have a problem. I cannot find this plate anywhere on the A pillar. Is it possible that an extremely thick coat of paint may be disguising it? Is it always in the same place on the A pillar? If so, then where is that please? If you think no coat of paint can be that thick then you haven't seen this paint job, it is atrocious. I tried taking a photo but they really don't show the extent of my paint problems. I dare say that will be the subject of another thread when I get my plan in place and start the real work.

A slight variant on the subject, when looking for the Vin I noticed a label on the B pillar which said something about the seat belt standard and gave a reference. The reference starts with AU but I thought it should start with a BS. Could this car have its origins in AUstralia or am I just thinking too far out of the box.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm sure my messages will get shorter once I get started on the car. I am struggling to make it water tight at present as I don't have room under cover.

Best regards, Kim.

It's possible they have removed the chassis plate when they painted it and forgot or didn't bother to put it back. The P5,s are from a time when chassis numbers weren't stamped on the chassis or bodyshell but had screwed or riveted plates, simpler times.

At times like this I wish I could have kept my own counsel. I wasn't very complementary to the chap that sold me the car. Going back to him now may be a little awkward. Sometimes technology can be helpful but something is telling me I should talk to the man and take whatever he has to say.
Kim.
