Recommissioning of the Denovo 3500

We decided the rear discs needed re-facing though thought they might be too thin. Decided to take the chance so did Harvey's drop test to ensure they weren't cracked. They passed so got them skimmed but it turned out one was minimum thickness, t'other was under and hold on, is that.....? Another drop test & this time they failed.
A new pair from Wins arrived forthwith:

Ah the old drop 'em onto a big rock test...……………….. big rock 2 TRM 0

Does H ever pay for any of your stuff he breaks ?

TRM
I have to consolidate my huge hoard of parts from the car I broke a decade ago, as I'm moving back to Blighty shortly and won't have a garage to store stuff in. I've got two pairs of spare front and back discs, used but I would say not very much, and I'd like to know if they can be re-faced or if they're just scrap. The discs are heavy but if they've got more mileage in them I'll keep 'em.
How do you drop them to test them? Onto the thin edge (!), or onto the big outer face? From how high?
Without digging out my workshop manual and looking it up, might I ask do you know what the recommended minimum thickness is?

Nah....I just wreck the place.....

As for fitting the bottom joints to the pillars, I don't use a rock, I'll have you know that I just crouch down and rest the steering arm of the inverted pillar on my left thigh, and then while using my left hand to support the pillar tube under the caliper bracket, I use my right hand to swiftly push the joint into position. I haven't had to heat the legs, freeze the joints, or grind off any of the splines either.

Actually, Mr Cobra, he charges me extra for breakages but l've got used to having the old boy around the place you know. I think it's the way he never moans or whinges.

Mr Task, drop the discs flat to concrete. Recommended height is a Harvey's midriff but use your own if you don't have one around. He had to turn them both ways to break mine but then he's a very determined fellow.
After re-facing minimum thicknesses are:
Front - .455" (11.43mm)
Rear - .330". (8.38mm)

Continuing the theme of super-cheapness, l've just ordered five of these:

https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/r..._kwcid=AL!432!3!328386859407!!!g!620966412363!

They used to be Nanking but have been rebranded. A budget tyre to be sure but from what l've seen online, they get pretty positive reviews. They certainly look the part, l recognise the tread pattern from tyres l used to have on my P5B, similar to the Continental ContiContact CT22. Seeing as my plan is to sell the car & tyres are such a personal choice l opted to minimise the shock to my wallet & depending on the car's shakedown drives l may also fit these to Bruiser on a set of V8 rims l bought from Clive.
A modest discount code grabbed online bought the price down to £214 delivered. You can get them ever so slightly cheaper but Mytyres seemed to have more positive feedback so l went with them. Ordered in the early hours today & they've apparently left the warehouse already.

I was hoping to get the Denovo to a small local show on Sunday. In order to do this I planned a small marathon of attending to the remaining tasks, took a week off & secured Harvey's spannering skills for a couple of days. This turned into five days of spannering for him to which he very nearly succumbed to physical exhaustion. It was a valiant effort & very close to achieving the goal but the 'Rumpel'servo has refused to awaken from his dozen-year slumber as yet & my Saturday was mostly taken up by an unnecessary course which l needed to attend to carry on my career. Still it was a mostly successful week & thanks to Harvey l think the engine is now running better than it ever has in my ownership & l would venture better than some years before that too.

I will once again attend the show in the 75 which is no hardship but not the surprise l had intended for the organiser, Adrian Mitchell of the RSR.

What ever is the matter with you man, just push harder on the pedal and get it there !!!!
You cant let H down, his buffing skills are beyond reproach - She's very shiny.

I'm the buffer though actually just washed her. I did claybar her when l moved workshop a couple of years back though.
I did consider exercising my leg but am taking my good lady plus my pater & his good lady so l'd be pedal-stamping for four of us without assistance. So on reflection the 75 can do her duty, discretion being the better part of valour & all that, what what...!

love the assorted sheds, never know what you might find in them, a body, a shed find Maserati with 50 years of dust, or Rumpol's old wig.....
