Hi, I have owned a 1974 P6 (3500 auto) for 4 years now. Scarab blue, webasto roof, and nice to look at (from far). however, get up close and personal and there are signs of deterioration (there are a number of places where the bodywork needs attention - a couple of wings, doors and the bonnet). I'm keen to get the work done as soon as possible to prevent the job becoming 'a biggie'. I've been promising myself a full respray aswell. Condition otherwise is excellent. Unfortunately i don't have the know-how or equipment to do the work myself. I live in Kent, and although i have a number of spares (including wings, doors, bonnet etc) i'm not sure whether they're any good and would have great difficulty in moving them. This may mean that i not only need someone who has an excellent reputation at restoring Rover bodywork, but is also may need to be able to source the parts i need aswell !

Can anyone out there recommend someone for the job ? she is 'my baby' and i'm not happy to let 'just anyone' take their hands to her.

Any suggestions welcome,

many thanks,

phil uzzell.

PROVIDED THE BODYWORK IS NOT TO FAR GONE I;E CRUMBLING IN YOUR HAND.REMOVE THE RUST AS BEST YOU CAN AND APPLY A GOOD RUST PROOF TO THE AFFECTED AREAS.YOU CAN BUY GOOD PRE-MADE FILLER TO PATCH UP ANY SMALL HOLES ,ANY HAINES MANUAL ON ANY CAR GIVES YOU BEGINNER STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DO THIS .IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT,WHEN YOU GET YOUR RESPRAY ANYONE WORTH THEIR SALT WILL FULLY PREPARE THE CAR AND SORT OUT ANY IMPERFECTIONS.THIS IS WHAT I DID WITH MINE WITH NO EXPERIENCE.
THERE ARE ALSO LINKS ON THE P6 WEBSITE WITH BODY & PART SPECIALISTS THAT MAY GIVE ADVICE.
REGARDS JOHN.

How much you want to spend???

I know some great guys but they do not come cheap.

The best in the country is probably JP Restorations in Lancashire ....but they have a long waiting list and you will need a bank loan if you want a FULL restoration.

Other than that I can suggest several people for the job...private message me for names etc.

My 74 2200 looked quite good from a few feet but I found it needed quite a lot of work - sills, D posts etc. some of this I should have spotted when I bought it of course but I did check the boot, take out the back seats, lift carpets etc. Trouble is the outer sills had been replaced some time ago but still looked OK. Therefore they successfully these hid unrepaired inner sills. Lifting the carpets is OK but in places they are stuck down and a vendor might not like someone lifting them!

Anyway since I'd had the car for a year I decided to get the work done and Annables in Derby sorted it just fine.

Not sure what part of Kent your in but I can recommend Davis and Mitchell in Beckenham for any associated mechanical work but he doesn't do bodywork. He may well know of someone who does though. Last time I was there he had a P5 MK III that needed some bodywork so he must have contacts. His number is 0208-658-2508 at the rear of 66 Beckenham Road
