Rear springs - P6 rear spring mountings

On my 1973 3500 P6 estate, the near side rear road spring jumps out of its top mounting.
Does anybody know why this happens? And does any one know how to stop this reoccuring?
 
Is the shock absorber and its mountings sound ? the shock effectively clamps the spring in place, though how the spring would jump out of its mount with the weight of the car on it ...
