Rear mounted under body Electric Fuel pump

I had an interesting experience the other day.
Driving on one of our busiest motorways out of Auckland and my P6b started loosing power in heavy traffic.
I dawdled into my daughters place close by and looked over and under the now stopped Rover.
The fuel filter in the engine bay was MT. Investigations took me to the fuel pump in the rear wheel bay.
The pump was ticking over nicely.
Was then that I noticed the shut off valve was shut .
Took my opportunity and cleaned out he filter within the pump too. A little bit of crud had accumulated over the last few years.
I must have flicked something up off the motorway onto the valve causing it to close off the petrol to the carbs.
First time ever this has happened and at the time rather vexing.
Goes like the clappers now with the valve open.IMG_20170214_171516.jpg

Hi.
Had the same problem last year on my dad's 3500 , tap was closed.
When investigated found the tap was loose to push/pull out.
The cork seal on the tap had disintegrated but not leaking.
These taps are a motorbike part, got some new corks from a classic bike shop and now all working fine.

Thanks for that Clive. I pulled the tap apart and found it had a rubber o-ring which I replaced seeing as I had gone to all the trouble of removing the rear wheel etc. May be that was the problem after all and not a piece of jetsam off the motorway

the fuel taps as far as I am aware ought to have the fuel resistant O ring seals ( green) I think they are called 'viton'. would not use cork for fuel but for oil.water is fine. still if it had cork? and you got replacements same ? then possibly I am misinformed .

Ive got the rubber O ring seal on mine .Never seen or heard of a cork one before these blogs. I wondered about that too .Clive may have a different set up on his fuel tap.

Hi,
You only have the fuel cut off tap when you have the factory fitted bendix type electric pump mounted at the offside rear.
The tap is fitted so you can service the pumps internal filter.
