Rear brake pads

Hey Guys
I want to get Mintex to make me up a set of rear pads in a semi race compound and instead of going to the aggro of hauling out my rear pads to template I wondered if anyone had a set of worn up GIRLING rear pads lying around they would post to me ( I would of course pay costs )

Once done I would then be able to give Mintex ordering info to the forum.
I have spoken to Mintex and they will be able to do this, I already have the fronts in M1144 and they are a good improvement.

Cheers

Mark

I have a pair here in a Jiffy bag ready to send. Just PM me your address and they'll be on the way. Then you can donate the cost of postage to the forum.

I am in talks with Mintex about producing some rear pads in a better material.
So far things are going slightly off kilter. They cannot reproduce the backplates, but will re line original backplates if they are cleaned of old material.
Problem two is that they don't have data for material thickness.
So does anyone have a set of new GIRLING rear pads that they could measure the thickness of the friction material with a digital caliper ?
Also please tell me if the material is level or wedged to cope with the arc of the caliper - I cannot remember.
Both sides would need measuring in case they are odd.

I will try to crack this with your help.

Cheers

Your post reminded me that I have set of new girling pads in the loft. Had a look and found the box straight away, but it is empty. Need to have a better look.

I have some new TRW pads and the old mintex ones I have just removed appear to have been fitted but not used in anger if you want I can measure them up.

The rear brakes are very good do you need more braking or is it just to match the upgraded fronts?

Thanks
Any dimensions will be a help. I have learned that Mintex do offer rear pads and have emailed a link over to them to their product, perhaps now they will look harder for data on these.
I already have fronts in M1144 and I want to have the same compound front and rear so am keen to get this done, I will post up all part numbers and results if I succeed.

I have a set of new pads on a Girling box, with all the usual extras (sliders, springs etc...) but the pads appear to have Mintex codes printed on them.
Anyway, i took some measurements. I hope that they are useful. (...and don't ask me why the photos appear with whatever orientation, software these days has a mind of its own...)

WOW !!
Demetris I am speechless, thank you so much. I will get those pics over to Mintex, the numbers will be a great help I am sure.
There seems to be different dept's at Mintex, the guy I am speaking to is from comps and he needs to get info from standard supply, I just hope std supply can make what I want in the compound I want.
We shall see.

Cheers

Today I got the rear pads from Mintex in M1144 thanks to Alan Brown at Questmead Ltd 01706 363939 alan@questmead.co.uk
I had to send old back plates, they are not able to manufacture new as the ones with the hooks on have an area milled out of the rear, if the plate was plain flat they could do them.
Here they are

The pads are tapered, they had to go to another depot for grinding after manufacture which held up delivery.
Here are the fronts part number MGB522 which are readily available.

Thanks for all the help on this, I hope it proves useful info for an upgrade.
Perhaps admin would be able to move this thread to ' Brakes' :)

And make it a "sticky" as well maybe. I can never find things like this when I need them. That said, if we make everything a "sticky" then we'll be no better off than having none at all.... This one warrents it I'd say though.

sounds great stuff. currently using pads form Wins .international on my 3500 auto. leaves just a wee bit too much effort required to stop methinks. ( servo and all callipers. master cylinder etc exchanged an under 2 years old) so better braking action is always a benefit . have to see if I can get a set when mine due for renewal.many thanks posting . am assuming these are not just for 'racing'.

No. Mintex put a caveat on the box, but they are fine for the street, they have a good bite from cold and really do work well with a bit of heat in them.
