Question regarding identity

There’s a red 1974 2200tc resto project for sale on eBay. Advert link below. The number plate has been blanked out but If you zoom in, it seems to read
VYX 731M
This comes up as a Wolseley in red. It’s not simply a make error as the cc Is listed as 2227, not the rover’s 2204cc.
What do you think is going on?

The reg looks as you say, and the plate looks like an original.

As it hasn't been on the road since 1985, last change of V5 1980. I would go for DVLA error somewhere. But digitising records could have led to the mistake. Would need to see the V5 to be sure though.

Although the cars in the number sequence are mostly Wolseley, Morris and Austin. I would expect a few rovers either side but maybe it was a small Yorkshire dealership.

It is possible that a plate was made with a transposed number but you would think between 1974 and 1985 it would have been spotted.

Other options are TV use and fake plate, though they are supposed to get a magic reg from the DVLA.
