Question for webmasters - members galleries? and why the wait

Hope you fellas are;nt put out by this, but why isnt there a facility for members to download their own gallery, like on many other car club websites, it would be nice to log on and see pics of members own personal cars and projects and such like. Also, why is there a delay when you post a reply, other sites forums seem to be instant.
Just thought it worth mentioning, as instant chat will make the site more popular, at the moment it seems as though this isnt possible, having no chat room that I can see, coupled with the delay makes it nigh on impossible to chat and respond to a topic instantly, which in turn says, may as well log out. ??

Your also welcome to post images into your forum posts, you'll need to upload them to some web-space first, then post a link using the Image button.
To get your pictures in the main gallery, just email them to me, webmaster@p6roc.com

In terms of the moderation, as zebedee pointed out we have had moments of "unpleasantness" and the only real solution we have at the moment is the moderation. To be honest, although it is nice for posts to appear immediately, even before we started moderation you would very rarely get an immediate reply. Remember this is a forum, not a chat room, they are totally diferent animals.

All the best :)

thats a shame (unpleasantness), but what I meant with regards a gallery, was a personal gallery where you can have your own personal stuff. Is this possible.

I have seen the gallery section of course, but didnt really want to post pics of engine bays, or non related P6s on there.

Just coming back to the gallery discussion Richard, I did actually mail some pics over to gallery@p6roc.com a couple of days ago, before I started this topic, did they arrive ?

and... what are your thoughts on giving members a personal gallery ? shouldnt be too difficult to set up !
he says having only just learnt how to send an email attachment).

Thanks Don, I've got the photos you sent, it didn't click that they were yours because the email address was "Craig Wyatt", I'll get them in the gallery shortly.

Not quite so easy to setup the personal galleries, but I'll have a look.

Ahh Thanks Richard, Its a long story mate, Christian name is Craig, Middle name Donald, for some reason i was never called Craig. weird but true. Cheers.

(Off Topic?????) Not so weird. Seems to be a tradition in some families like all my relations on my mom's side.

Just a suggestion.

log to www.webshots.com and create yourself a profile.

Upload you pictures and then tell the webmaster what the URL is. It's displayed to the rigth once you've uploaded you pictures.

The webmaster could create a page in the p6roc.co.uk site called "members gallery" and shows the Members name and displays the link as a hyperlink. (after checking once that the photographs are suitable)

I already have an account (free) at webshots but to try it out i uploaded three pictures into a new album and wrote this message in under 10 minutes. It's all drag and drop and follow the instructions.

(webmaster - You would probably have to put a disclaimer that you are exiting p6roc.co.uk to a external link of which you have no control over) The responsibility is then taken by member.

Unfortunately my firewall won't let me even view that site !, apparently its got a high adware content. I wouldn't be happy sending our users over there.

We'd be better off having our own user gallery, I write stuff like that all the time at work, it's just getting the time to do one for the site. I'd also like users to be able to upload images directly to the forum posts without having to use their own hosting. The only problem I have there is that I didn't write the forum, although I have done a few modifications to the code, but it will take a good bit of "tinkering" to get image uploads in.

I've been doing quite a bit of work on the site recently so hopefully I can keep the momentum going and get something sorted.

Thanks for the suggestions guys :)

Nice bit of homework ( "TheCamel" )
But i think the webmasteris right, it would be much easier, and in the long run a better idea to have our own members gallery. Theres no hurry, everyones time is precious so dont feel obligated or under pressure just cos i suggested it. It will be a plus for the site when it happens.
Don.

Thanks Don,
The suggestion of a gallery fell at the same time that i was looking for one myself. Two birds with one stone so to speak.

I agree with you that the photogrpahs should be within a gallery within the p6roc.co.uk domain.

To defend the webmaster. (And i'm one as well on several other websites) The amount of time needed to maintain a gallery properly can take alot of "spare time" Coupled with the moderation of a forum, certainly one as active as this one is is going to be very time consuming. I'm suprised he has the time to drive a P6 let alone working on one.
The one i chose can be viewed at.

Hi Richard, still cant see any of me pics in the gallery, was there a prob mate.

PS, any news on the users own galleries idea?

Don.

Hi Don, I've been building a members own gallery, which should be ready soon. Will let everybody know when it's live.

In the meantime I'll try to remember to get your photos in the gallery. :)

Hey Richard, Good man, dont worry about my pics in the main gallery then, leave it till you get the members gallery sorted.
Cheers.
