Question for master fabricators....

Hi Gurus,
Just a quick question - if you were going to lengthen a set of doors how would you approach it? Would you remove the door skins, lengthen the shell then re attach the door skins, and use additional material from a set of rear door skins, or would you just cut and shut the door? Only a though excersize at the moment, but I thought if I get a couple of doors I might start mucking around with it and see how it goes......?

Lengthen the shell? Have fun with that.

I used to know someone who was building a two door soft top and he removed the B/C post and moved it back 5". IIRC he was intending to cut the doors vertically and just add 5" of new metal.

Not in any way a master fabricator, but if I were going to lengthen a door I would obtain another pair of doors and cut both sets of doors adding in the required amount so that there was only one weld. you would have to pick a spot for the join that avoided window and lock hardware.
I am just musing on this, it would depend if there was an area on the door(s) that would line up.
Just an idle thought.

I think Rob meant lengthen the door shell?
I’d definitely start by moving the B post back and work from there, and yeah use a rear door to continue the line.
There’s another guy in Oz who’s been doing this, check out Outlaw P6 on Facebook, his name is Edwin
