Can anybody please tell me the Quinton Hazell part number for the top and bottom ball joints on a 1972 p6 2000 . The Rover number for the top ball joint is 595724. The bottom ball joint is 595725 .
I have come across some new Quinton Hazell old stock but have no catalogue, Thank you in advance.

Hi, I have a couple of each stashed, however only one of the bottom ones is in a QH box and has the No. QSJ 232S.

HTH.

Colin

Edit: A little bit of googling says the top joint number is QSJ 231.

Colin , Thank you very much for your reply . You are definitely a better googler than I . I am looking for 2 and I thought I had found them in some old stock but no such luck . Two of our suppliers have them but at approximately £80 each ( including postage and vat ) I think is a bit steep . The search continues. Thanks again , Jim

Thank you sdibbers , Mark Gray would always be my first port of call but as you say he is out of stock .

Wins have them at £59.00 plus vat and carriage - so about the £80 you mentioned earlier.

Thank you Quattro, Yes Winns have them and I have no doubt they are fit for purpose but at £80 each , I want 2 that’s £160 for 2 ball joints . Am I wrong in thinking that is a bit excessive ?

I suppose there are two ways of looking at it.

From a person struggling to keep a classic car on the road: -

Compared to when Rover purchased them by the thousand and offered them as spares they are a bit pricey.

From a business perspective: -

I would assume these to be small manufacturing runs and would cost a lot of money to produce pro rata, possibly with bespoke tooling which is also a cost. Geoff is only getting £59.00 for them, the rest is postage, packing and 20% to the dear HMG. He needs to buy the joints and keep them in stock (so an investment). From what is left, he needs to pay rent, rates, wages, tax, other expenses and also - make a profit.

To be able to keep people like him and the others, making new parts we need to maintain our cars, we need to support him and the associated costs he needs to make, and pass on to us.

I'm biased as I run a business and do make some bespoke stuff for customers

Hi Quattro, I do appreciate the points you are making . I have no problem at all with Geoff’s associated costs or with the fact he has to make a profit and yes I agree we do need good people like Geoff and Mark Gray to keep our hobby going . I have done lots of business with both of them and thank them for it .

My problem is with myself ! For many years I was in the Motor Trade . I also worked for Sir Quinton Hazell . Back in the day I could buy these joints for very little . I know what the prices were then and have said many times if only I had hindsight then , I could save a fortune now !,

I know I will have to buy these joints at today’s prices , I am just trying to justify the cost to myself .

All it makes me think is that back when I was repairing P6's for a living, I would only ever fit genuine joints, and to supply and fit all 4 used to be charged out at £240 all in, and was a lovely mornings work. Happy Days!
