Propeller shaft sliding joint

Hi all,

I'm cleaning and greasing the prop shaft as part of some maintenance on the diff and rear suspension. On dismantling the sliding joint the thick (~4mm) cork washer between the splines and the spring washer disintegrated. I've searched for info on this but found none. Is there a replacement part or do you have to cut one yourself? What do others use fr this?

Many thanks,

Craig

Sorted. Spicer sliding yoke dust cap kit D2C. This comprises a split cork seal, split flat washer and the screw cap. Northern Drivetrain in the US. Now I just have to find a kit in NZ.

Craig.

I just went to an industrial bearing and seal house and got a short piece of 1/4 square packing, which looks like a square rope. The stuff I got was graphite impregnated, but there are several different types. Then it was simple (but messy because of the graphite) task to wrap the packing around the shaft, cut it at an angle and then cram it into the crew cap.

But then again, I didn't do the research and I had no idea you could get service kits for the shaft.

Yours
Vern
