Project...... 'PHAT' Rover!

I'm all the more impressed knowing you're behind that Viva Standard. I saw it at Arley Hall last year, it took me ages to get a picture because it was the only car receiving constant attention!

Hi Conrad thanks for your comment!, and welcome to the forum!

It was the Vivas 50th year since production started last year, so we trotted off on a long run to Billing and it never missed a beat!.....two trophies picked up as well!

Ray, the only verminous or lethal creature to not have taken residence in that Viva at some time in it's life is probably a Salt Water Crocodile!

*I have found some other Metro literature for Tomi, I will bung them in the boot for when we meet next.

Hi to those popping in and out of this thread over the years!!!.....was never intended to be this way!

I am still plodding on with a finish date set in my head for 2015 all going well. ........Haha now 2016 haha 2017 haha 2018 haha 2019!!!!!

'Phat Rover' has had a lot of mechanical work carried out so far this year to make roadworthy for the future MOT....

Update...its taken so long....the MOT rules have changed!!!

This obviously means, braking system, clutch components, suspension components, engine bay etc has had to have attention, and photos of this work are boring to readers I am sure.

The clutch tested me, as I could not get full clearance, and could not see the obvious reason why. It turned out the swivel joint in the pedal where the master cylinder rod passed through had seized and didn't allow for full penetration of the rod to the m/cyl. Removal of the pedal box took place after wasting time with a lump hammer, plus-gas and heat! after these failures the job had to be done in a vice, but no big deal.

Other items I got on with where alloy fuel tank fitment and modify the fuel filler and Rover sender to fit, an electric fan and alternator conversion, removal of lots of play in accelerator linkages and fit bearing rather than rubber bush, twin side exit exhaust system, strip fr/hubs for longer studs, new f/wheel bearings, new brake piping and fuel pipes, o/s/r spring / shocker, strengthen r/susp as per n/s, starter overhaul, fuel pump kit, fabricate a cable operated boot release, etc

Plan is to have all the rear body modified from and including rear doors back before winter and send in photos...so watch this space...but don't place any bets!!!!

For those watching Phat Rover and wanting the finished article....please line up behind me!!
I have finished another wing, and door on the o/s/rear and modded the rear skirt to fit neatly in between.
But I see the front footwells and rear headlamp areas will have to be cut out and reshaped because of width of front wheels.....more work, such joy!
So this will be next job before it can move!

The guy who kindly pushed this Rover my way for scrapping......always seems to have a wry smile....when I bump into him sat at shows on sunny days!!!

Getting there Ray, getting there,

but have you actually a definite idea where there is......
I cannot wait to see this in the flesh.

John.

Well here are a few pics to be going on with of PHAT ROVER!

I may not bother to take it out for pics, as its in the best position for doing the f/n/s door, as its a tight working space to say the least, and it as to go back to this exact spot! at this time the phat r/o/s wing that is fitted will not go past the carport support tube!!....lets hope it goes through the entrance gate eh!....ummm!
anyhow, I quick trial fitted the panels for some pics, sorry about quality....dated camera and confined space!...

2015....just an update, started front door 'phat' mods

work yet to do....

Phatten up the two front doors....done 2015

modify o/s footwell for wheel intrusion ....done 2015

to only use the two outer headlamps

move headlamps up into bonnet space as required

phatten the front wings and the lower front panel to suit, and lift lower panel up to the new headlamps position

to remove and fill and smooth off the front indicator / side lamps

move side and indicator lights into headlamps

modify the front grill to be slatted from end to end, to hide headlamps, matt black finish

alloy bonnet edge trim, black finish?

f/panel maybe moved up so frontal area narrowed, this may mean attention to what I see visually x/member wise!...I'll just see how it develops!

What wheels are going to be wrapped in all that rubber?
I'm guessing you're going for bulged arches at the back at least then? :)
Jim

hi jim.....redrilled alloys....

10j x 15s.....no bulges its been done many times.....i am planning on all the complete side out by 5/6 inches.....from rear lamp out down body side and back inwards to front lamp.

when I spotted those alloys my first thought was this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqqZ28m8uCo

Applied for Ripon (and Fleetwood Dock) but the naughty boys are favouring Ripon, so probably be there.

I miss that car but it was a love/hate relationship. The more love I gave it, the more hate it gave me back  I hope the new owner finds this site as it makes P6 ownership much easier. I know you know, but that pic was on the film set of "Northern Soul", your autobiography?

pics update....
