Project...... 'PHAT' Rover!

Re: Project....Northern Soul

Your car, your rules mate. I always say to people that dislike anything I've driven, " if it bothers you that much, jog on". (or maybe a little more concise phrase which conveys the same message  )
It sounds very interesting project.

I'm imagining something a bit like the Lister Jag XJS..

There are a lot of people on here who really appreciate custom work, especially on rovers
On thing everyone will agree on is the P6 is a fantastic car to begin with. So completely stock, rolling restoration, factory show car, mild custom, hotrod or complete rust bucket gets plenty of love
The timing of your arrival here and what kind of project you're embarking upon is rather symbolic to me.
Our webmaster, who very recently passed away would have absolutely loved this project.

Keep up the good work, and don't forget to cut the grass around those panels

Hi Raymondo.

My mrs would crucify me if I did that in the garden!

Your project sounds cool indeed btw. I would love more rubber on my S2 V8 (maybe 205`s) but haven`t got the panel beating skills.

Keep us informed with many pics.

Cheers

James

hi james....

.... nervous as hell with what i propose, because i know the work involved!.....but i have done it whilst sleeping with my eyes open looking at the ceiling!...anybody follow this ?

i had the idea what i wanted...fitted back wing.....left fastened at lamp...this created a fab flare out which i fell for....but wing cut across tyre...so would have thumped it....so now its back to whole side out....my original thought, but has i said earlier....these things chop n change as one goes along !!!
update 2014.....flare created from rear lamp and across tyre....so it could be done!

It makes me proud to be British, a man, in a shed, with a plan.........

umm, think this just may work......voice just said in my head....yeah right, but what about the doors!!!!!!!

Re: Project....Northern Soul

I'm liking your ideas there Raymondo, I was having a little think while looking at those last pics.......... I think it would be very feesable to cut a long the top or the rear wing and around the rear light and flare out from there. Then cut a long the swage of the doors in line with the top of the wings flaring out therefore giving a phatter appearance but keeping the original shapes...... Just thinking aloud you can tell me to sod off if you like but think I would give that a bash on my future project one day...

what are they thinking about as they stare at the water

They're trying to catch a car obviously.

not as daft as it may seem...here's my local fishing spot.....couldn't move the Skoda Estelle, as it broke my line....but I nearly had the Maxi, but it turned turtle !!! :)

Re: Project....Northern Soul

If you are going to go for a different engine the ones that are theorectically easiest and worthwhile i believe are m/t series 2 litre normally aspirated or turbo which can be coupled to a lt77 i think as can the prima perkins and l series from the 200/400/600.

In my 800 the t series normally aspirated is currently averaging more than 30 mpg and is mostly used round town. The l series in my 600 hardly ever dropped below 50 mpg... brilliant thing it was.

i'd like a souped up skoda just because i dont think they deserved the same jokes as the ladas... they were just old fashioned by the 80s i guess.

Re: Project....Northern Soul

I hope no one takes this the wrong way........ but I can imagine, from some of the help I've had in the past, our late Webmaster being very like this in happier times.......
It's certainly nice to have some 'old school' fettling going on!!

Re: Project....Northern Soul

Quite... and the more the better as far as I'm concerned. it's a great way of keeping old cars, especially the scruffier examples on the road.

....Air intakes ....well that's the theory, but primarily to make the body shape flow from body to roof !

Re: Project....Northern Soul

Awesome work, Raymondo. I can see from those rear wing pics that it is going to look phat indeed when done.

I do thoroughly enjoy it when people engineer magic in their shed / garage. This forum is a great place.

Cheers
