What wheels are going to be wrapped in all that rubber?
I'm guessing you're going for bulged arches at the back at least then? :)

hello there....your car was already in my 'favourites pics' box....not least because of our taste in colour or lack of it as some would say, as we have satin black and matt black runarounds!

Ah, a man of taste & discernment. 8)

Re: Project....Northern Soul

That sounds like a plan!

I particularely like the idea of having just the outer two lamps at the front.

No need to do any work to the suspension - except as needed to fit the wheels or raise/lower stance.

Do you know the P6 was designed with frameless windows? The stainless steel frame sections that hold the glass and fit into the doors are afterthoughts and the car looks much better without them. Even better, it was also designed pillarless. That is, the B post stopped at the glass line, leaving an uninterrupted opening from front to rear. There is no problem with strength in the base unit to return to this - convertibles need no chassis strengthening.

Re: Project....Northern Soul

Interesting looking project. Do you intend on keeping the 4 cyl or is a V8 on the cards too?
I'm more interested in your base unit there. That is a very early car. Dunlop brakes and a small brake booster mean that it is mid '65 at the latest. Quite a rarity. Is the chassis number suffix A or B?

thanks for that info chris...

I dont mind other peoples thoughts, especially if it saves work, or criticism, but its hard to change your ways after many years messing with cars, the rear arms are such a length that after nearly 50 years, i just have to put some strength back in for piece of mind, and two lengths of flat bar down each side takes no time at all.

window info interesting, i have already carried out some of the work i listed, so poly windows are in frames,

I cannot swing a ferret around in my shed! (sorry to ferret owners!) its work down one side at a time thats how is as to be because of the liquid that never stops coming down these days!.....my fault i know for living near hills!!
so i do work which makes me happy as and when i want to.....so instead of overhauling the brakes etc......i started on interior and exterior work....my bones creak now under cars.....and to think when i was younger i welded under cars with snow all around and a big smile on my face!!!....oh how we change....see i am here chatting, not in the garage!!!....
.....my idea being, that if it looks almost finished i will have no choice but to do any mechanical work needed.....my theory anyhow !!

hi there,

Love the detective work some readers take on.....yes an early car, a '65 I would have you know.....i have larger servo knocking about....i should have put that on to throw you off the scent!!!

keeping 4 pot for now!.........but I have a liking for 4 more cylinders... 8 !!! if you get my drift !!.....but that would not be out of the norm.....so twelves a good number of cylinders!!

all the best

Re: Project....Northern Soul

Hi Raymondo,

Don't think you will get much resistance here about what your plans are for your p6.
We love to see new things happening and after all as you say it has been saved from being scrapped and it's yours to do as you please, always a good thing that someone takes on a project and can get some joy out of it. I'm sure it will look awesome and can't wait to follow what your doing, so please carry on and keep us updated when you can..... Don't want to hinder your progress :D :D :D
It's only money and time at the moment that stops me from purchasing and fully customising a p6

Re: Project....Northern Soul

Absolutely! A Rover saved is a Rover saved. I just have a keen interest in early cars and have been tracking down a lot of the unique bits for my own project. You may find a few differences with yours as you go along which can be a bit of a curse at times.
Be sure to keep us updated with lots of pics though, we love pics here.

hello guy,

thanks for that upbeat message!....

it was a big gamble wether to show what i am doing and just live in my own little world, which i love by the way, and not get any grief, i have been a member of other 'so called friendly' club sites, and some sites get quite verbal about what you should and shouldnt do to an old car, and leave you well alone......i thought we are all car enthusiasts for gods sake, !!!

For those interested, i will not be throwing silly money at it, i will beg, steal and borrow if i can, but i have a burning passion to mess with a car that only other car enthusiasts can understand, as i am sure golfers understand golfers and fishing men understand fishing men......although i have often pondered as i walk by them, what are they thinking about as they stare at the water!...any fishing types that have strayed onto this site please let me know......too dangerous a pastime i think in todays modern world.....how many want to just slip under ??????

.......but for stephen in manchester helping me out with a wing...i may not have come on this site ( thankyou stephen....you're salt of the earth! )

...here is pic of my partners idea of 'planting out' .....AND MY IDEA !!

raymondo :)
