Power loss when idling.

You can now get usb adaptors that go in the cigar lighter, and also show you volts.....not very accurate in my experience, but a cheap way to see whats going on while driving.

Volt meter readings are as follows, engine off 11.82 volts, engine running 13.26 volts, engine running with lights and fan switched on 12.46 volts. I think that's a bit low. Dash gauge doesn't show much of a charge whatever I do, needle mostly points to the - rarely to the + I would have expected it to show towards the + side after turning the engine over to start.

The minimum output to charge a battery is 13.8V (6 cells @ 2.3V), and my cars generally show 14.1V once stabilised after starting. Check your earth connections - undo, clean well, apply Deoxit - especially at the battery and engine. If no improvement suspect the alternator or regulator.
