Pin Striping

Greetings all,

First, can I say that all of Australia stands shoulder to shoulder with the UK in these difficult times. Now, on another note, the very last P6B's sold in Australia featured gold pin striping on each side on the sage line. Did the last of the P6B's have this as well. ?

Thank you for your good wishes, stay safe and enjoy your Turkey BBQ on the beach this Christmas.
Now what was the question, oh yes, sorry dunno :)

It would have been a local thing, designed to help sell the cars..

I applied a stick on to my dark blue car, I think in silver - worked well to my eye. IMHO the nicest stick-on lines have 3 parts - a narrow, small space, wide, small space, narrow combination. I think its a 'swage' line, where the panel is bent. Later cars (S2?) had a chromed metal strip there - mine does.

All NADA cars had a pinstripe above the stainless steel side trim. I painted mine by hand using a special pinstriping tool and used the trim strip as a guide.

Great job !

It was an absolute bugger to do. When I bought the tool, I was told to keep a rag and a lot of white spirit near so when I cocked it up, I could wipe it off and have another go. The rear wings were especially difficult as the line is long and you have to physically move as you go rather than just sitting in one spot, which predictably ended up with a wobbly line. I cracked it eventually but I did use a lot of white spirit!!

NADA cars did not all have pinstripes. The 3500S was usually pinstriped, but I've seen examples without. The 4 cyl cars were rarely pinstriped, the only ones I've seen are the 66/67 white with blue sail TCs that also had blue patches under the TC emblems

I have never seen a 3500S NADA without a pinstripe in any factory documents. If a respray was done then I expect pinstripes would be left off!!

Thanks guys, I'm tempted to read up on pin striping and have a nice gold pin stripe on almond. A Series 3 XJ6 I owned many moons ago had gold striping on BRG. It did start to peel off after a while. It was a very 70's thing.

Cheers, Lewis
