Petrol reserve tap – how does it work?

John,
When fitting the P6 reserve tap to the Saab, make sure you install it in the most inaccessible place possible as per Rover.
Scraped knuckles and cursing are a good indication of correct location!
Good luck.
Paul.

Excellent, thank you. Reserve tap could be under the bonnet as in the Rover, but slightly easier to get at. I thought the tank could be there, too, but there isn't really enough room and it gets too hot under there. So it would need to be in the boot, which means devising a venting system which doesn't cause petrol smells in the cabin. Non-vented cap and a breather pipe from filler neck down to the road below, perhaps. And I would have to remember to switch over to the auxiliary tank a minute or so before I turn the engine off, so the carb's float chamber contains the smokeless fuel ready for the next cold start. Lots to think about…

Alternatively but bigger is the reserve tap on Land Rover with dual tanks . Serves similar function
