All polished within an inch of there lives and all painted (bar the merc and the p6)
So why do i like the idea of leaving this one alone?????

nothing wrong with liking a car that is old rather than in someways being a nostalgic reproduction!

It must be subconciously speaking to you Steve  no doubt it will let you know when its time for a make over

Because it imparts a sense of it's history to you, rather than being just another shiny, restored old car in a line of other equally shiny & restored old cars which have had all sign of their previous lives obliterated. That's not to say that a shiny, restored old car isn't a nice thing & that restoration isn't needed for many of them, but if that is what happened to all old cars then the classic car world would be a very boring affair indeed.

I thought she did, but as I haven't watched it since I was a kid, it was only when I searched for a clip i discovered the Lunar one, and the clip is a classic. I would suggest an earlier incarnation was Almond, once a Rover owner, always a Rover owner....

John.

where it finished up in the clip, pity it wasnt A####d. Sorry Mr R/D I couldnt help it, I apologise in advance. Slapped hand for me I guess

 your a very naughty boy!

Just to split hairs I think you'll find you've apologised after and not before

My tuppence worth, aside from the valid points made by The Rovering Member, is that if I get a car that's honest, but a bit scratched and far from glossed up and mint-looking, is that if I start fiddling with it, it's like opening a can of worms. Tidying one thing makes me feel committed to turn my attention to the rest of the car, if that makes sense. Especially if the car could benefit from that attention beyond the exterior. I'd be never-quite-happy, wanting to do a full resto but not being in a position to (can't weld, useless at bodywork, don't have a garage of my own, etc.). But that's me
