P6's in the media

Just for interest, can we list the instances in which Rover P6's appear in TV and films.

Obviously there's the disgraceful destruction of at least one in Eastenders, but what else is there?

I'll start off with my favourite film Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.

Bloody hell. Never even knew about that website.

I shall spend many an hour searching through that. Someone must have spent flippin' ages adding all these on there though.

There's flippin' loads I never knew about. Like the Gattaca NADA ones also used in Austin Powers, Crank - High Voltage and the X-Files (where they are made to look like Indian taxis!).

Great stuff

I remember watching 'Anna Lee' filmed & set in the mid '90s. IIRC the central character's boss drove a mint-looking Zircon V8 (as a classic car) which was blown up by a bomb in a drain over which it was parked! :(

The im[car]db doesn't seem to have this car referenced on it. This is the link to the general imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105942/

I remember that episode well, I have it on video (remember those?). It was a lovely P6.

I remember at least 2 P6s in Coronation Street:

Fred Gee’s Lunar Grey 2000 SC ended up in a lake with Bet Lynch in it, about 1983.

Archie Shuttleworth, the undertaker (played by Roy Hudd) drove a lovely dark green P6 around 2002 – 2003.

A P6 appeared in Monty Python’s Holy Grail film in the scene where the cast was arrested.

Don’t forget ‘The Gaffer’. The opening credits showed his P6 with loads of parking tickets in it.

Those TV and film redits are, as far as I can see, missing the Australian TV dramas and Police shows made during the 1970s that featured Rovers. Some that I can recall having seen had only small appearances, whilst at least one show featured a P6B in a very major part.

Can you remember the names of any of those shows?

There was another disgraceful destruction of a good P6. We also found an alternative use for a driver's door

I like Gattaca. P6s in it are great. Have it on DVD now, must watch it again now that you have reminded me.

Hi Colin,

"Division 4" was a Police drama that ran for a number of years with over 300 episodes. "The Outsiders" was a drama series of about 13 episodes if I remember correctly. It was during repeats when I saw the Rovers, which would have been during the 1980s.

I've just posted this and realised there's a spot for it here. This is the opening scene of Frost/Nixon, archive footage from the Watergate period. I nearly fell off the sofa when I saw this. It's in the first second of the film. It's also the only time you'll see it. BTW, the film is well worth a watch.
