P6 V8 – SU HIF6 – throttle mechanism; should there be a weld here!?!?

Attached is a photo of the throttle mechanism visible at the back of my left hand carburettor. I've highlighted something that I've only just noticed. A blob of weld, which I rather suspect is not what the manufacturer originally supplied! So, wise guys, does this look normal, or has it been damaged and repaired?
Perhaps somebody could take a look at their own similarly equipped V8 P6 for comparison, maybe take a photo for comparison. I'm thinking it ought to just have been a bend upwards, like the downward bend just below, for the shorter throttle rod. I look forward to some help with my detective work.

Thanks for your speedy confirmation that ain't how it ought to be, Harvey.
Wish I'd taken some pics of my carbs before I sent them off to be refurbished. Hey ho. Might explain why it took so long to get them back. Perhaps I shouldn't go accusing anybody of anything, and it has been like that since I bought the car this engine came out of almost 20 years ago. Reckon I'd've noticed sooner if that were the case though. Hmmmm. Whatever. They work, and I'm not exhibiting at a concourse d'elegance.
