P6 Three Thousand Five Choke cable.

My Estoura choke cable needs replacing.

Should it have had the one with the hook on the end?

Is it possible to buy that type?

I believe there are 4 main types, but stand to be corrected:
  1. Small round, cotton-reel shaped. With 'Choke Pull' engraved on the top. Up to 1965 or so? 1660582477526.png
  2. Hook type with 'Choke' engraved on handle in vertical text. Circa 1966-70.1660582541821.png
  3. Hook type with choke fan logo engraved on handle. Circa 1971-72 (early series 2)1660582419624.png
  4. Large round type with choke logo set behind clear plastic panel. Common with other BL cars. Circa 1973-end.1660582438170.png

But of course, each one was available in a variety of lengths for V8 (short), SC (long) and TC (very short + splitter to extend to carb separately).

If it's a 1970 series 1, I'd go for the second one, yes.

Sadly none of the first 3 are available new/remanufactured as they were unique to P6. You find new old stock occasionally on eBay, but they are rare. You'd have to contact somebody breaking a car of the same year to find a second hand one. Where in the world are you?

It doesn't have to be a V8 either - the SC choke cable is plenty long enough to reach the V8 carbs, but the TC one isn't.

In the meantime you could buy a generic new choke cable so you can get by until you find the one you need.

Mine looked like no4 above. It broke off where the cable is crimped to the straight part of the pull. After looking at it for a while i managed to silver solder it back together. It took some fettling with a file to get it close to fully seating back into the outer (off the car),but in the end it works. bought a spare of the same type ....just in case.
