P6 gearbox reversing light switch

Hello
anyone know where I can buy a 1974 automatic P6 3500 reversing light switch, or would it be legal to fit a hand switch with a warning light under the dash?
I can see to replace the dodgy switch, nicely fitted over the exhaust pipe, will prove bloody tricky
Thanks
Brian

AFAIK it's not illegal to have a dash switch, you just have to remember to turn them off.

1974 should be a BW65 and they are a pricey switch. If it's on an "M" plate it could be either though as Oct 73 was the changeover point IIRC, and if it's a 35 you're better off with a good used switch than a cheapy chinese new one.

PS if the start inhibit isn't working don't be tempted to bypass that.

Thanks for that info, Are the switches mechanical, or will they only work with the engine running, ie pressure in the G/B

IIRC, unless automatically switched off, ie by gearbox switch, an internal telltale light is reqd.when illuminated.

BW35 inhibitor switch.

thanks for the posts, I thought there were two switches, inhibiter and reverse, but I am informed one switch does both, I do not know until I remove the offender, which one to get.
That said where can I get a replacement?

My advice would be to find a good used and tested secondhand one, the new ones are for the most part, Chinese cr*p.

Hello

I recently had to do exactly this procedure after my old one died just after the BW35 was refitted to the car. The aforementioned iffy ones, or at least the iffy ones that I purchased are here:
Inhibitor/Reverse Light Switch - RTC1150 | Rimmer Bros

They do indeed look pretty ropey in the flesh, although the (failed!) one I took off my car was identical. I will say it was working perfectly fine until it wasn't. I had no other option in procurement, so I just got two at the same time. Interestingly, you have to be careful which way you wire up the switch (in addition to making sure you have the inputs the right way round - I think from memory the reverse lights are the tabs that are flared out and the interlock are straight back but that's easy to check which one works when with a multimeter). I found that my interlock switch only worked when wired up one way, when the spade connectors were reversed it stopped working.

So, having dismantled, by drilling out the rivets on my dodgy switch, basically I cannot see a reason for the in out contacts need to be exact, they are only a contact anyway, making sure of course they are doing the correct job.
There are five selection fingers? of which the middle one is bent off contacts? If bent out straight it does not make any sense, (it is the BW65) and looks original. Any thoughts on that??
Finding it hard to obtain another, (without selling the family jewels)
I will try a repair job on the spade which has broken off,
It seems one step forward, but four back, getting towards, I hope a good summer
Regards

You will note the switch is a BW65 not a BW35
