P6 clutch problems

ive fitted a replacement 2000cc engine to my 1971 p6 but i dont know what year car the engine has come from. the engine number is 44604412 a, as i am having problems with the clutch now (stopped working) i am having to remove the engine again, the workshop manual states the clutch pressure plates are different on the early models to the later ones. it appears my car is a mk 1 1/2 due to been built with both mk2 and some mk1 parts from the factory. any help would be most appreciated.

The early clutch pressure plates were only fitted to early series one cars, not all of them, and as those cars could be 57 years old now they could well have been changed during that time, so you'll have to see what you've got when it comes out. Mismatches between early/late pressure plates and early/late release bearing sleeves will cause problems.

could anyone tell me if the clutch thrust bearing housing is the same on both the 3500 and the 2000,or what the quinten hazel part number is. any help would be most appreciated.

Quinten Hazell won't have made the housing, only the bearing, which AFAIK is the same on the 4 pots and the V8. I can't remeber if the housings are the same, but I don't think so.

thanks for your help, have to wait until the weather gets better before i remove the engine again, was trying to find replacement parts for the clutch items whilst waiting, dont fancy removing the engine and have it sitting outside whilst i track down the faulty part etc.already got the clutch and pressure plate that match up with the ones in the works manual but it doesnt show you the bearing housing, unless someone out there has one who can send me a picture of the housing from a 2000 tc .

The housings are the same for early and late clutches, it's just the release bearing sleeve that is different, and it's the mismatch between the sleeve and the pressure plate that causes problems.

that sounds like the most likely whats happened, the car came with a new clutch plate and pressure plate,i fitted them and if your right it sounds like thats whats happened, used to take the car round the block every 2 weeks for two months and everything was fine until one day when i went to take it out and i couldnt get it into gear, clutch pedal was fine but gear wouldnt engage, will let you know what the problem was when i get it sorted. roll on summer.
