Hi Folks , I seem to remember reading an article regarding the conversion of a P6 saloon into a soft -top convertible .. any comments from anyone with info on this project ... I would have thought the most critical part would be getting a hood that does the job, but also looks the part ? .. I will only consider this if it has been done successfully before , she looks stunning at the moment , so will not take any risks

Not quite the same, but I’ve got a Webasto sunroof to fit.
It’s very tempting with the weather like it is, but the realist in me knows that in the UK the weather is usually not up to it & I’m told Webastos are similar to fabric roofs in general (like my wife’s Mini convertible) & are a bit noisy.
It’s personal choice obviously & depends on where & when you drive, but I don’t know if the ‘good’ times will be sufficient compensation for a potentially worse experience every other time you drive your P6...

It's been done several times (at least 4 to my recollection over the years) and most either don't have a hood or some abomination of a tent perched on top. Several have been up for sale but it's difficult to shift such creations. I recall one being done to an excellent standard but, alas no hood.

Chapron (he of many a Citroen based convertible or presidential limousine) did a rather nice "landauette" conversion which seems like a more workable approach.

IMHO want a cheap convertible buy a MX5. Want one that can seat 4, buy an old Audi Cabrio. Properly engineered, insurable and waterproof when required. Like many of these and numerous pointless pick-up conversions, it's a good classic ruined.

My $0.02 as they say.
