P5b street rod

Zowie!! pics like that could make a man sell his p6 and buy a p5!! seriously nice lines on both those cars shown.

Those wheels were selling on ebay new a while back, think we discussed them on the forum at the time, I considered buying some, but to be honest I'm not that keen, I think the Jeep alloys look better.

Love the red Coupe. The wheels on the burgundy saloon are vulgar, they make it look like a Scalextric model. Funnily enough, I've played with this idea myself, albeit in miniature.

There is also a very cool red P4 doing the rounds with a tubbed rear end, Billet wheels and a Corvette motor! Funny but I think the best way to hotrod Rovers is to leave all the original trim intact, just change the wheels, lower them and tweak the engine. I don't think they respond that well to radical body mods. I guess that says something for the original design.

Awww, that model is sooo much cooler than the real ones, I think we need to start a model section, here's a couple I prepared earlier....

I think a lot of the problems with modded cars is that the builders often compromise with what is available rather than getting exactly what they want, probably the most important aspect of a car is it's stance, as per your model (which is just about perfect  ), you would need all sorts of mods to the base car to achieve that in the metal, so builders often compromise and end up with wheels too far out of the arches, or ride height all wrong.

Which is the difference between custom cars of the old school & today IMHO. Originally you built everything yourself instead of simply buying it off the shelf.

What intrigues me about that red p5B is how little has been done to it to acheive the effect (others may say to muck it up  ).

"think the best way to hotrod Rovers is to leave all the original trim intact, just change the wheels, lower them and tweak the engine. " 8) Amen to that sir!!!!

The red P5 Coupe has been around for years! I remember it being featured in Street Machine back in the Mid to late 80's! Its still owned by Winston Sewell who originally modded it! I love it! I think its runs a SB Chevy or SB ford V8..

P5 Coupe's are stunning looking cars, I had a 71 V8 back in the early 90s as a daily driver! i was only 21 yrs old, certainly different to all my mates' XR2 & hot hatches! LOL...imagine, straight dark Admirlaty blue paint, silver burch rooof & 16-17" american alloys such as Torque Thrust II's or Cragar 500P's with cherry red leather....hmmm

Hi Rich, like your idea of models, here's my collection so far, all 1/24, i have nearly 30 unbuilt hidden under my stairs for a rainy day, my 6 yr old has his eye on them too!!! eek, also have an original 1/16 MPC General Lee '69 Dodge Charger' from 1981, may not build it as they are ment to be re-releasing the kit 1st qrt 2011, I have two on order from Megga Hobby state side :)

Ah! He's a London boy isn't he. I think I met him 25 years ago when I'd just bought our P5B & took her up to High Beech in Epping Forest. He was up there with his car too & comparism's were obviously made between the two cars, mine being in standard 'silent' form & his a little more 'brusque'. Either that or it was another guy with a modded P5B who I used to see around, this was a metallic pink saloon though as I suddenly recall & I think he was bemoaning the fact that Winston's car was still faster than his making his car the second quickest P5 around.
Yes, that was it, so I haven't met Winston, just heard of him. Blimey, 25 years!
As it happens I recall a Vauxhall Viva parked next to us too & the spotty Herbert driver sitting in it, revving the poor thing up to the max' & holding it mercilessly while he cocked an ear towards the front with a quizzical look on his face pretending he was checking the engine condition. His girlfriend meanwhile sat in the passenger seat mortified with embarrassment at his youthful foolishness while we smiled in understanding sympathy at her.
The poor lass!
Halcyon days.

One of my Dads customers had a pink metal flake Coupe :| His name was Kevin.
I didn't quite get it back then as everything else that came in was standard. His Mum was not amused by it either as hers was mint

Yep, that's where I remember Winston from. I used to run a bike and Capris with V8s back then :)
