original indicators on a rover 1949 P3/75 sedan.

I would like some information on how to wire a toggle switch up, and what type to use to get these old wing type semaphores to work they will only be for demonstration purpose.i have indicators set up on the front and rear of the vehicle they are wired to the original semaphore stalk.( i think i have located the two wires that go to either side). i can get these old originals to work with wiring straight from a battery. i notice that the left hand side has two wire connectors and the right hand side has only one. as you can see from this story i am not much of an auto electrician. any help would be greatly appreciated. many thanks and best regards Derrick Smith (deckell)

I suggest you take out the semaphore units and check the wirings is OK and possibly use new wires to the switch . I expect there will certainly be one feed wire and possibly an earth one (Black) which will go to the chassis/body . A suitable toggle switch is available from AES Indicator Switches
You then just need to connect a feed to one terminal of the switch and each of the other two to the LH and TH indicator. If you are going straight from the battery I would include a fuse

Thank you roverp480 for your reply yes both work on the bench marvelous, the original wires work ok on the left hand side but seems to be a break in the right hand side wire. looks like a new wire to run any thoughts on the easy option to take and how to do it, as i said previously i am not an auto electrician by a long shot. any help and guidance would be a great help best regards Derrick.Smith (deckell)

Derrick, don't forget to also add in a 4 way emergency switch, so they will flap left and right ........just to show you are not sure what direction you are going :D Clive

Thanks for your technical advise. when i originally wired them up a few years ago i used the wires that were operating the indicators and each time the unit clicked the old semaphores would flap up and down in unison with the indicators, i changed that set up as i don`t think the police would have that sort of sense of humor although i thought it was hilarious. best regards Derrick.Smith (deckell)
