Oldest V8 ?

At Stirling on Sunday I followed a lovely looking S1 V8 into the show ground. Later on I spotted it again amongst the private entries and had a chat with the current owner who had just sold it to a guy in London for top money !
He also mentioned it was the oldest V8 on record. Not knowing much about these things I took him at his word.
Any way i'm sure it was discussed here or on facebook at some point as I think someone commented about the extra badges which I didn't like to much myself made it look a bit cluttered inside and out but was still a stunning car !

The enquiry is complete.
The vehicle details for FEK 546F are:
Date of Liability 01 10 2014

Year of Manufacture 1968
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 3531cc
CO₂ Emissions Not Available

Yep - oldest production v8. The only one I'm aware of that's older than Sleipnir...

Good to see it's still around as it went to a chap in Colwyn bay then disappeared off the radar as far as i was aware...

That is a lovely looking car...

I couldn't help but think of a certain booze loving member of the Church (off of the television of course!!!) when I saw the number plate though...

Lovely car, and was sold by 'The Classic and Sportscar Centre' a couple of times in the past. It was more original at that point, with no extra badges, lamps, the steering wheel, or the sheepskin seat covers. All easy enough to reverse though, and a fantastic car.

Didn't like the badges especially stuck to the chrome o the rear bumper. However someone liked it and paid £12000 plus for the chance to own it :D

Heres another suitably apt badge/sticker that the new owner could fit!

Your pics a better/clearer than the ones on their website or carsandclassics!

Mine is a little newer by a couple of months!
Just 2 very carefull owners, built June 1968, 44k miles locked away in 1977 and came out in 1995 for 2 months then back in the garage till Jan 2014.
I gave a light refreshtoration of 4 new wings and a full 10 panels off repaint, rostyle wheels and new tyres, and refurbished the engine bay!
Won the best V8 in show at The Rover P6 Clubs annual rally 2014 at Blenheim!
Could be for sale at the right price!

There are a couple of prototype V8s that are older than the production ones and still around..

Pilkie you are the forums answer to Edd china and Mike Brewer all in one, keeping another classic on the road, I thought that would of been a keeper.

How many Series I (or rather V8 cars with metal grilles) V8's were built?

Not sure off the top of my head, but the figures are in the back of James Taylor's P6 book.. on amazon for the Xmas season! ;)

Without referencing the book the figure of just over 25k springs to mind.
