Old car smell

When Sparky got vandalised the Police turned up, to my surprise, and had a good look around the damage. The young blonde Police lady walked around the garage breathing the hydrocarbon/oil smell in deeply and says, "Oh I do love the smell of these old cars." When she opened the door and stuck her head in, her legs almost gave way. I was thinking, "Get yer coat on Sparky, you've pulled!"

Automotive type
I have it in my minds eye....................

Castrol R and dust would be preferable to felt.
Do you get the same P6 smell in a Series one and Two ?
I know the smell you mean I have some seats in my garage but I dont get the same smell only inside the car its an odd one.

Well. You sir have conducted a scientific study that none of the above people with their utterly useless replies can hold a candle to.

It's not the seats folks !

And take note ye relationship wreckers, he put the seats in the garage ! not in the bathroom !!!!!!!!!!

On Beryl a lot of the smell went when I replaced the carpet and underlay. I also used a modern sound proofing for underlay. The old stuff was pretty rough looking and smelling. The only smell remaining is the leather from the seats. Fortunately Kim seems to like it.

Mine smells lovely, not really an old car smell at all, just smells the same as it was when it was almost new.

I am guessing that the natural fibre underlay may contribute to the particular smell.

Cobraboy,
It could just be the aroma of blood, sweat and tears.
The first idler change was very much like that, boy I was not a happy bunny. This time I bought a kit of joint splitters and got one of them to fit on the steering arms. It was the best purchase of late, the job went very well. Previously I had swapped out a sloppy idler for a tight one, however during the MOT a few weeks ago myself and the tester really gave the front end a thorough going over and found the replacement idler nodding a little at the bottom.
I have had the original idler re bushed with a nice long bush made from three bronze small end bushings, so that is now on the car, will see if that tightens things up.
So all fragrant in the idler dept.

Well I bought this.

And it did this

So assuming we are allowed out again, if you walk past a chap at a show smelling like a tart's knicker drawer.... that'll be me !

I may have lead a sheltered life, but I have no idea what a tart's knicker drawer would smell like.

If you put one of these bombs in a knicker drawer it would smell like my car.
I would say the smell is not exactly new car  but I cannot liken it to lingerie either, perhaps I need to do more research......

I haven’t led a particularly sheltered life but I don’t know what a Tart’s knicker drawer smells like either :D although I am always willing to be educated ;)
but what I do know is that those stink bombs are very temporary. My old Range Rover P38 smelled terrible despite two of those things. Seats out, carpets out, HVAC system out, dash out, headlining out, you get the idea.
