I certainly wouldn't build it up, buy a new one.

You can buy the drive gear for the end of the dizzy, but they are held on with a press fit roll pin thingy. I am sure you can fit one of these but personally I would get someone else to do it, because I know I would mess that up. Get the P6 one :)

Remove the oil filter, clean up the mess, remove the two wires and six bolts holding the oil pump together, clean up the mess, withdraw the oil pump gears.

Then just clean up the mating faces, fit the new gears, packed with vaseline, new gasket, and oil filter. Spin it up with the drill so you get pressure instantly on start up, refit dizzy, go for a drive :)

If you want to go for an upgrade when you're at it, get the high volume kit from Real Steel (AZ884) as Jason suggests. This does mean drilling locating holes into the pump from underneath the car, not easy :hmm:

Eanid back,
OK folk, lets recap, I do not think I have a pump problem, I am pretty sure the dizzy is not locating in the female part of the pump drive, and my problem is the dizzy shaft as seen in my excellent photo shots,
I was asked to photoshoot Prince Harrys wedding, but my other car had a puncture, and I had run out of film anyway.
So keep your answers simple folk, or you could write on a 10 pound note and send to Eanid box no 666
thanks again
Brian (my pen name)

What do I need to buy to convert a P6B dizzy to fit an SD1 oil pump drive please?

SD1 V8 Distributor drive gear.

You will need to trim a bit off the end of the P6B drive tang to allow it to fit.

whoa there lads
veering of a bit as to what I am asking, I have a 1974 P6 3000, that has no oil pressure
!/ The car is starting and will run, no dizzy problem there then
2/ On running there is NO OIL PRESSURE, WARNING LIGHT NOT GOING OUT
3/ Remove dizzy, insert genius type tool, run pump by drill, 20lbs on gauge????
4/ Conclusion, No drive between dizzy and pump, elementary dear Watson?
5/ What I need is two measurements, length of dizzy shaft complete end to end, and a measurement of shaft from top to first part of drive tongue, this is about one eighth of an inch shorter on mine, is this correct?
6/ Are the shafts available?
May bite the bullet this weekend, press out roll pin, pull shaft from dizzy, check any visible damage, go indoors, jump out of the window. Seeking attention, (I live in a bungalow)

sincerely
Brian
