Oil leak valley gaskets, tips and tricks?

Finally I got to check this out, and I found that the wedged rubber tips at the end of front and rear seals was cut off!
Instead they applied some RTV (or similar), and probably didn't clean the surfaces, since the RTV was loose in three out of four corners. (See picture)
One corner I had to cut clean.
