OIL CAPACITY.

Just got a 3500s fitted with a 3.9l engine, I went to change the oil but noticed the sump is different to my old 3500. It has a flat bottom, and the drain plug is on the side which is much bigger at 34mm AF. Also the oil filter which is the long type UFI 23 102 00 is just clearing the radiator, meaning I will have to remove it to change the filter. I need to know how much oil it will take, and will a short SDI filter fit.

You will need to experiment by draining, then refilling with say 4 litres and checking the position of oil on the dip stick after say 5 mins. Add more oil a little at a time building up to 5 litres and see where you're at. Once you have reached the high mark, then make a note of how much oil you have used. The thread for the oil pump front cover from circa 1977 remained unchanged, so a short filter for a Rover V8 designed for a 3/4" spigot from memory will be fine.

ERR3340 is the part number for the ( Genuine ) short filter, lots of aftermarket equivalents, was used on the Discovery 1 and 2

If it was me I would find a way to remove the filter without disturbing the radiator! Monstering the filter comes to mind, but then you might have priming issues when it comes to restart. Could you lift the rad enough to clear the filter without disconnecting hoses etc? I think the std UK water pump uses less shrouding of the fan than the export models (viscous coupling types), and might allow you to move the rad upwards some? Hope so.
