Number plate light - Bolt removal?

Hallo all,
Another wee query for someone to help resolve.
I was recently given, by a very nice bloke, a replacement number plate light, to replace the one on my car which was so badly corroded inside that it fell to bits after a rear-end shunt. Said nice bloke advised that I could remove the `studs` originally used for mounting the light to the bumper by supporting on a small socket and giving it a whack with a hammer.....tried this without success. I haven`t damaged the part thus far, but feel if I hit it any harder I might ruin it and render it useless...any ideas? My next route would be a drill!!??

Cheers, Drew ???

might be better to grind them off and get some new bolts. These bulb holder can really rot.
