Now have a P6 again!

Viewed, test drove, paid for and brought home a lovely early S2 2000 today. Have been looking for a P6 to join the stable ever since I bought the SD1 to replace the sad loss of LDD. (The SD1 has not been without its issues - which until 30 minutes ago I thought were finally resolved, but it seems they are not - the saga can be followed on the SD1 Forum for those interested). Any way back to today's delightful purchase. Superbly documented history, practically unbroken MOT history, original bill of sale plus, plus. Only 67,500 miles (67,524 now!) Structure excellent. Engine pulls brilliantly - very eager. Mr Dunning came with me to view and I think if he had the readies on him we would have come to blows as to who got it. I now have (well almost - assuming the SD1 gets sorted) a Rover for almost every occasion - P6, SD1 and Tom Cat.

I concur :D Looks a lovely car

That does look rather nice, Neil. Do you mind me asking how much it was?

Also, I've tried to look at the SD1 forum, but you need to be signed up to view stuff on there unfortunately. :(

Not cheap Adam! Price pretty much at the top end of what private sale 4 pots are going for. I had my personal P6 expert and advisor with me however and he was in no doubt the price was right for what was on offer. But condition is really good. Very original, not restored. All the places you don't want to find rust are pretty much as fresh as the day it left Solihull. First owner who had it 29 years barely did 2 or 3 K a year and claims never used in winter. MOTs back right back to the mid 70s would back this up. Everything is still really "tight" in the way it should be. Engine is very crisp and plenty of punch - feels just like a spot on 4 pot should - plenty of power.

So now that big question V8 or 4 pot. I can see for a motorway cruise the V8 will deliver a much more relaxed drive. On the twisty country road down from the A3 to Petworth, this 2000 felt a lot more fun on the corners - a bit more "chuckability". Its horses for courses as the old cliché goes and both have the own benefits and downsides

Lovely P6 you have there.

I had a look at you sd1 post. The efi can be a problem when it isnt running properly. The latest posts seemed to suggest you got it sorted though?

I loved my vitesse but the P6 is a better car in many ways.

Colin

Nice car . I love the colour and interior. Im a big fan of the 4 pots. There a different car to the v8s. Nice if yiu can have both.
Welcome back
Marcus

Big clue is the condition of the carpets. They look pristine from here. Indicates a well cared for car.

Absolutely Warren - carpet condition tells a huge amount about the overall condition of P6. I have looked at so many in the last 7 months before buying this car. Its not just wear and tear, its how they fit, any sign of damp marks, have they been out and in a few times and so on and so on. Although not a reason in itself NOT to buy a car, replacement carpets to me are always a sign a car needs very thorough investigation. Amazing how many cars are advertised as "totally original" and you can see from the pictures carpets have been replaced. Sill repairs etc are often a reason they get replaced and you need to know what is going on underneath.

Now theres a thing.
Was it owned by a chap called angus by any chance from Farnham?
If so its a very nice car, nice chap too.

i thought it looked right!
i was trying to describe to a mate how nice it was and there that night was its pics on here.
i collected some bits off of him he had on ebay
i was intreaged that on the dash it had (i may be wrong)two green knobs ad 2 of the hook type/
can.t remember quite but it looked different ?
i thought it a wonderful car and never been out in the rain.!
a bargain at any price!

Switches are pure early S2 SC - exactly as pictured in the August 1971 release hand book - headlamp/sidelamp switch is the green illuminated type, the others are the black un illuminated "gherkin"/hook shape. The TC got all illuminated switches and the order is slightly different

ah!, i thought they must be standard but its just dawned on me that i've never looked that close at a s2sc before.
i think i did own one briefly but i can't for the life of me remember the dash.
i just assumed they were all the same but i should remember what they say about assumption!
well, what they say in the film 'under seige 2' anyway!
a cracking looking car.
