Yeah, an English mans home is his castle, unless some rogue wants a part of it.......
Do anything to protect it and end in jail.

Jim.

The reasonable force law is an entirely reasonable law with terrible PR. Truth is almost no-one is convicted for defending their own homes. Those who are prosecuted tend to have gone overboard...

Between 1990 and 2005 there were 11 prosecutions of people who attacked intruders. Seven of them related to domestic burglaries. One of the cases that was prosecuted involved a man who lay in wait for an intruder and then beat him, threw him into a pit and set him alight.

Well my wife has a law degree and almost everyone studies the Martin case. The issue is not so much of self defense, it's more what Martin did in laying booby traps and shooting at people as they left the property when he wasn't under direct personal threat.

Actually there are worse "P6 in the news stories". Do I remember correctly a family murder with a very distinctive metallic pale blue P6 in the driveway? Might have been Manchester about 3 years ago......

Just a different level of perspective, the BBC case quoted does NOT seem unreasonable to me whatsoever. Does the intruder expect after discovery that everyone will have a good laugh and pat each other on the back? Sorry that's just not real or even logical.
The intruder will in most cases go to extremes to preserve his anonymity and freedom including murder and GBH.

Society rarely questions when Police shoot a fleeing person who is merely fleeing from their attention let alone a person who is in the commission of a serious assault or crime. Yet Police officers are merely citizens doing a job and have no more right to these extreme actions than you or I but almost never are brought to book for that which you or I would be.

What always annoys me is the casual way the state removes what should be our inalienable right to defend out life, life style and property and family.

I clearly don't have all the answers nor would I suggest that you go out of your way to inflict the horrendous injury the above example out lines however the UK and NZ alike have gone too far in the opposite way in their law and order policy with regard to natural justice which as I understand it has some bearing in UK and by default NZ law.

Graeme

Err, what do you speculate that to be?
