Noisy brakes - Advice/help required

Dear All

Having purchased my 2200 T.C. in early July, the car which had been inactive for many years had very noisy squeel from the front pads when the brakes where applied. The pads have plenty of wear left in them so, I thought given some usage the pads would heat up eventually and the noise would stop. This to a certain extent has happened but I still sound like a London cab pulling up!. What I would like to ask is should I preserve with the pads or, just replace them. Any advice on this would be gratefully accepted.

Chaddy lad.

Stick with the pads - Take the pads out to see if you have anti-squeal shims fitted (thin stainless steel strips between the back of the pad and the piston face). If you have them, clean with white spirit, dry, apply a thin layer of copperslip grease to both sides and refit shims and pads. If you do not have these shims fitted then buy a set and fit using copperslip grease as stated.
The noise should stop. Hope this helps. Regards, John.

Dear John

I've been away on holiday so didn't get to see your reply until I returned. I've bought the copper ease grease and will have a go, weather permitting this weekend and will let you know the result thanks for the interest.
Chaddy
