Not wasting anyone's time! ;) It's still not 100% clear what it could be on this car either...

I test drove the car today. The first 5 miles it ran great. After that, the same problem. I'm ordering a new ignition coil (in worst case it'll serve as a spare) and a new Lumenition module. Hoping to get an agreement with the company that I can send it back if it turns out I don't need it. In the worst case, I'll have a spare of that too and I would basically have a spare ignition with me! :p

Slight change of plans. Got the solid advice that having excessive play on the rotor shaft is bad news. Since I want this car to be reliable, I ordered a brand new distributor, with a Pertronix electronic ignition. It'll set me back some money, but on the long run will hopefully mean many miles of carefree motoring! :)

Brand new distributor fitted last week. Covered about 120kms since, problem free. Seems to rev a little easier too. Keeping my fingers crossed I wont have any problems in the near future! :p

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it. After all it most likely was a problem with a power wire of the LPG system, but I had some problems with the distributor all along. They just happened to arrive at the same time! :)

Hi Thijs, In case it's any use to you in future, I will just explain my experiences with the "Lumention" set up. I had this system fitted to my Rover V8 auto in 1976 (yep, I have had the car quite some time) for a good number of years it worked fine, then one day driving along as normal it cut out:(! completely dead??, did lots of the tests as you describe but at the end of the day we found it was the "infrared lens" unit that was failing, that is to say when the engine got hot the lens would it fact slightly move therefore not making its connection each side of the lens, so, I had a new one fitted but it would never run correctly, (misfire, wouldn't start etc) eventually I said enough is enough!! had it taken off the car, and not to put a too finer point on it, scrapped it, I then replaced it with a "Boyer Bransden" electronic system, I think around 1990, this system uses the points as a switch only so there is very little power going through them (the points on the car now have been on about 15 years) they don't burn and they stay clean, they help the car to start and the engine runs very well (I always use "super unleaded") hope all this helps.
Good Rovering:) DAV8. Dave

So it's not unique...

On my previous P6 (a 2200TC) I had problems with the Lumenition as well. This was one of the reasons for me to ditch it and go for something else!
