Nice looking eBay car in need of a flex plate

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-P6-2000 ... 221wt_1398

Looks like it's in good nick, don't think the number plate is legal.

I've done the flex plate on mine and I would recommend pulling the engine and box out and doing it on the floor, as Harvey will tell you, get it wrong and it will go again soon. Mine had been done wrong and had only lasted a few years before I got the car. The two special bolts were in the WRONG holes. Big job but easy to do just takes time and care. The only down side is the flex plates are hard to come by.

I'm surprised you're not having a punt on that as it's so close to you.......A hundred quids worth of bits and a session on the spanners & hey presto...

 I'm watching it but I've so many customer cars here I have no room at the Inn :(

It's getting the flex plate, the last ones I've seen on eBay were two sold together (never understood why) about four years ago, and I brought them! Real rocking horse $"*£ At the time I couldn't find anyone with one in stock.

Is it beyond the skills of an engineering firm to make a flex plate ? Maybe even thicker/better ?

It's certainly possible, a firm I used to work for years ago used have their own plates made up, single thickness, but solid. They used to work OK, although they still failed on occasions, but a lot of the time that was due to incorrect fitting or misuse, the same as with the originals.

This car belongs to a friend of one of our customers. I'm a bit tempted myself, but we've got a bit too much on our plate at the moment.

Colin Gould had some flexi plates made a few years ago, one of which was in my old 2200 auto and did not fail me in the six years I had the car.

Last one we did involved very good used one from Ian Wilson, it's not caused any problems as far as I know since installation.

Hi, I have just recently changed the flex plate on my Range Rover and I thought about doing
the same thing or doubling up. I was advised that the torque converter is a pressure vessel
and can swell and push against the gearbox to the engine so the flex plate needs to be made
of spring steel to cater for this movement. Not a problem, but just something to be aware of.

Could be, the owner is called Keith and he's well knarked about his drive plate. I have given him a good price to do the job but he's obviously cutting his losses.

He lives near eric? Apparently its kept in a garage opposite eric's corsica blue series 1 v8 :)

To be fair it does look in very good condition, and has obviously had some money spent on it. If a flex plate couldn't be found, should be easy enough to convert to manual, probably a £1500 / £2k car in full working order ?
