GWEN1974

New Member
HI,
Been a member for a while so I thought it was time to introduce myself. I have owned GWEN for over four years now. She is a 1974 3500 auto in Almond. (photos attached)
Having not much to do during shielding and the cold weather stopping work on the car (no garage) I started to try and solve an anomaly with the car's engine number. The engine number is 45116386D and should be a 10.5:1 CR and fitted to a P6 3500 Auto 1967-1976. However, the engine block is stamped with 9.25:1CR with the British Leyland logo both ends.
GWEN has a 44,000 miles on the odometer but body condition suggests it is more likely 144,00. However, the engine is spotless inside and out unlike most Rover V8's of this mileage. Could the engine be a factory rebuild about the time 5 star disappeared?
I have been doing a rolling repair and fettle with the object of keeping the car driveable as my daily. As I cannot go anywhere due to Covid, I have started chasing the rust around the back of the car, hopefully successfully in time for spring and the easing of lockdown.
Regards
KJ

It's a "D" suffix engine so it should be 9.25:1 cr.

I like Almond with a Huntman roof and tints, and the Vitesse wheels set that off nicely.
