Filled my 3500S tank last week. Decided to use BP Ultimate unleaded, as I heard it has all the right additives.
first time the bill came to over 100 GBPounds.
I know fuel has been going up in price, but 100 pounds is getting a bit much. Back to Sainsbury's next time.
When I started Rovering, 60 pounds was enough for a fill-up.

4s 5d ( 22p) per gallon when I started motoring. Cost just over £2.20 to fill my Land Rover 10 gallon (45L) tank. On the other hand I was on about £10 per week wages as an apprentice.

I started going to the pub for pints of beer, before my dad told me to replace the gallons of petrol used in his borrowed SD1 V8. A pint of beer was always cheaper at approx 2/3rds the cost, for 1/8th the volume of a gallon.
When 18yo I'd only have a couple of pounds in my pocket, I'd spend it on a gallon or so of petrol in my BSA. Spend the evening riding though the empty beautiful country road that Ireland has to offer. Other times when I had the money, I'd stand in a noisy, smoke filled bar talking (shouting) about the pleasure of motorcycles.
Today, at 56yo, the relative price of beer and petrol has not much changed, but I no longer go to the pub..... I do however still fill the same BSA with a couple gallons of petrol and ride aimlessly though the fairly empty roads in the still stunning scenery offered.

Unfortunately, my gloriously engined P6 Rover is more and more used for A to B motoring, due to its relative cost of meandering.
Funny how only the details have changed...

I am sure when we changed to that new fangled metric money, it was 34p a gallon. I used to work in a family fuel station in the school holidays back then.

Our local station here is now £1.83 per litre, so 4.546 * 1.83 is £8.32 a gallon o_O

I REALLY don't think I would own the two NADA V8s I do now if I had to pay those prices...!
