Hello all!

loved p6 Rovers since a kid and just got my first one at last!
1971 Almond 2000tc.
i love the car and especially the colour I think it really suits the shape.
Few little things to do on her. Ordered a stainless exhaust from Wadhams, also seems like a lot of road noise from front left wheel, thinking maybe a bearing. Or front brakes binding slightly. It’s only done 1500 miles in last 7 years so needs a bit of recommissioning I think. I’ve noticed it doesn’t roll when at lights etc so think brakes may be slightly binding. Would this clear with use? The brakes work great although I think the pedal may be a little hard.
Thank for any input much appreciated.

That is a great looking car.
Try lifting each corner to find the binding wheel and go from there, it won't fix itself I'm afraid. Don't use the jacking points until you know their integrity. There is a jacking point in the form of a metal block hanging down in the centre of the rear valance, and a cross member in front of the engine.
If all the brakes are holding on check out the air reaction piston on the servo. You could also take it for a short run without using the brakes at all and then go round and find the hot disc/s

Welcome fellow p6 owner
I had the same problem with my p6 the front brakes was binding on
slightly at first then got worse it was down to the pistons in the front callipers has gone rusty.

Thanks I will do that. How do I find and check the air reaction piston?
First see if a single wheel is at fault.
If the car has a Lockheed servo the air reaction piston fits into the servo body under the white cap with the filter on the top.
You get to it by removing the white cap and diaphragm, then the metal dish under that, you will then see a small piston, probably flush with the servo body. VERY light pedal pressure will eject it., you will need an assistant with a rag to stop it flying out. If these are sticky the brakes can hold on.
You will need to bleed the system afterward.
For servo parts and caliper seals try Paul Hunt Classic Car Parts - PowerTrack Ltd - Mail Order Supplier of Lockheed and Girling Brake and Clutch Components For British Car and Commercial 1935 - 1980

Thanks for tips. The pedal seems ok. The front right is hot when i touch hubcaps. So I guess it’s that one binding. It seems to be only slightly. I can push car when in neutral Although only just.

Worlds first photo bomb - congratulations
wow -fluffy dice
Did you ever sort that driving light?

Do you know, l never did. I rarely touched spanners in those days. I merely straightened it from time to time.
The 'fluffy dice' was actually a bunch of plastic banknotes of various denominations.
To make up for my lack of the real thing you understand, as true today as it ever was.

had issues with brakes sticking as car was in garage for 13 years by previous owner .. ended up replacing entire braking system! though real first issue was driving to a local a car meet .car went slow .thought it was engine paying up ( fuel starvation) wasn't until I left I found car didn't want to move .it does very slowly home max speed 25mph! an di saw engine starting to over that . thinking engine issue and nearly Home I pressed on. got home stopped in drive an dropped bonnet .rad just starting to boil! but.. notice lot of smell of brakes.. checked an all four wheels very hot.seem servo valve has stuck (. common it seems when not used a lot) but undoing a 7/16" brake fluid line allowing pressure in lien to drop cured stuck brakes ! moral of story ..check wheels as well as engine .I suspect in your case you have a sticky piston in a calliper . jacking wheel up and rotating by hand and applying / removing brake applications can confirm . I have never sued my four jacking points on sides . I always use engine cross Member at front and rear 'small square ' jacking point at rear . but DO check rear jacking box hanging just below rear layer apron/valance is Ok . eg does not start to deform or push itself up into boot space ! axle stands are great . do Not put jack or axle stands under de Dion tube as it can cause issues. very tempting I know. good luck

Hi Thamesrover
Good to hear from you-yes has been lost to the ether for a while.
I put uprated King spring on the rears a month or two ago. Her bottom was a little droopy. The kings bought her back to the correct height.
Who's carpets did you fit? I need new ones.
Good to hear from you

Hi again, one side had dropped and i just put a god set from a 3500s , i purchased at about the same time i brought the sd1 rims off you.
you were looking at a good woolen set of carpets from england?
i just fitted some cheap ones from Autodec (which was about 3 year ago too haha). They OK, but better than the battery acid eaten ones that were also turning to dust.
I was working at Noel Leemings for the last 3.5 yrs and did very little to the car, but went back to work for Repco again 6 months ago so has helped
get me back on track :)
My Parents also recorded a restoration of a white p6b and i watched it a week ago, so gave me some more inspiration to get into it, also with the lockdown ive got time
good to here from you too, still in the same place? I only vaguely remember where that was sorry

Hi There , I purchased my p6b in Tauranga NZ about two hours roughly from home, drove it back, brakes seemed to work OK, looked at them closely
and saw rust so dismantled both calipers to find the pistons were pitted with rust, so pulled them out to replace them, well tried to pull them out.
Tried to force them out with the hydraulics, air, boiled them in a pot ,managed to twist and pull them out eventually with groove joint pliers. FUN! not
Anyway i was amazed i got home with how they were.
Cheers Karl
