Hello everybody:
I'm new in the forum, my name is Carlos Suarez and I'm a proud owner of a 1974 Rover P6 2000TC LHD (bought last summer)
I live in Girona (Spain) and is my third British car ( a 1976 TR6 and a1986 3.6 Jaguar XJS ).
I´ve made a body off restoration of my TR6, and a front and rear end restoration of the Jag.
Conclusion: a rather masochist way of playing with cars ;-)

Now I'm getting involved with the Rover, discovering that is a quite exotic peace of machinery.
I'm happy to join this forum and for sure I will find very useful information.

Things already done:
-Engine and gearbox out
-Front brakes (new master cylinder)
-Clutch (new master and slave cylinder)
-Fix problems with the gear lever
-HS8 carburetters repair kit

Things planning to do but I'm a little scared
- Cylinder head off

Thanks in advance
( Attaching some pics of my cars )

Welcome Carlos! The TC looks very tidy! I’m sure you’ll find lots of help on the forum here. I’ve found it invaluable for my car.

As for taking the head off, it’s pretty easy on the TC, follow the manual’s instructions and you’ll do fine. The engine has a clever design that locks the crank and cam positions while having a bracket to hold the can sprocket without losing the timing. I think you’ll find it pretty elegant.

one piece of advice on the carbs. Check the spindle bearing for wear, that will cause 90% of running problems in my experience.

if you have the time think about starting a thread on member’s projects. I’m glad I started mine years ago as it’s a good reference for work I’ve already done.

Welcome, loved the photos, you are obviously a perfectionist, Kudos for that.

I hope your 2000TC isn't in too bad shape, they really are rewarding to work on.

Graeme

Welcome Carlos. Nice fleet of Brit classics. The Rover looks to be a very nice addition.

Thanks for all your feedbacks.
Talking about the ¨fleet lets say that the TR6 is a nice and simple car to work on.
The XJS is another league... a step forward but a very fine and solid piece of engineering.
And now the Rover...my god...that front suspension...brrrrittish at its best !!
The idea is to refurbish engine, front brakes and clutch.
I have to pass the MOT before summer in order to complete the Historic Registration and then
get into bushes front and rear suspension and rear brakes ( same scheme than the XJS )

Yes, I will take the head off, I'm pretty curious to see the condition of valves.

I checked the clearance today and found that are a little ¨tights.
The manual says 0,33/0,38 mm for exhaust, mine are some 0,20 or 0,25 mm.
Regarding the inlet, manual says 0,20/0,25 and mine are 0,20 ( cylinders 2 and 3); 0,18 front and ( cylinders 1 and 4 )

Welcome from me too.
Is your Rover an Italian market car with chassis number starting from 868...?
Normally a 1974 car should be a 2200, unless for Italy, for tax reasons. Plus in your photo it shows white front indicator lenses and side repeaters.

Edit: I have just read the other posts in the 4 cyl section that reply to my questions.

Hi Demetris, yes my car is an Italian one, and the engine nr. begins with 868...with suffix C.
Comes with an early clutch plate.
