New convertible project - Update

Well I've managed to finish welding the outside of the front door together and added a bit of tube internally to hold it solid so I can open and close it.

Thanks guys, I think its difficult to see the full effect while its in the garage, and several different colours !

Hopefully I'll get it stripped to bare and then a coat of primer will give a better idea of the finished effect.

Hi Richard - I've only just picked up this string of messages and have to say you are quite a whizz with the welder - very impressive - but it's just the one side you are doing???!!!!! - very novel!!

Yes, I was thinking of doing the other side with a different length door, so as not to concentrate the loads at one point :D

Or of course I could just do a 3 door, 2 on the passenger side...

would be quite funny if you saw it, can you imagine, "I saw this P6 today, when it went past it was a saloon, when it came back the other way it was a coupe" :D

Richard

you may laugh but ford did something along this lines a few years ago with a Cortina, one side was a normal 4 door saloon the otherside a slightly rarer 2 door, the excuse was they could take 1 car to shows etc to display both types of body, although I think it may have been put together on a friday after a drink:laugh:

I am sorry richard I must disagree, all fords were put together after a drink days of the week don't come into it!!!!!!!! :D

Talking about production lines I have just remembered a rather amusing story, a mate of mine accidentally bought a Citroen Visa (who remembers them?) it was a fairly low spec one. Now when the window winder stopped working he removed the door panel to find all the motors and switches for electric windows behind there, all wired in, just needed to remove the switches from their plastic bags and hey presto electric windows! Maybe it was cheaper for Citroen to make them all with electric windows, I don't know but it was very odd.

Cheers
Al

On to important things now, Hows the project going? you have had another weekend so at the speed you seem to work at it must be in primer at least by now :D

Sorry, spent this week getting ready for our rally, and of course spent all yesterday at the rally !, so no progress this week :(

yeah - looks like the seller is going around breaking up p6's. I'm going to see a 2000TC someting next week, as I sold a V8 on Monday and now only have the 2000 and a v8 left :( - Found out the 2000 was in the crow road! - was at very wet calendar on Sunday and met a previous owner of the car, he told me originally ordered by a doctor, woh died before delivery so wife put car away in garage. Crow Road DVD on its way to see if I can spot it! :D

Strange, I wonder why he's given up on it ?, also I'm not sure I've ever seen a "Leather Engine Gearbox", :D Is that specific to the S model !

Richard

I keep thinking I should transplant a good electric sunroof, like the one in my Taurus while I have the TC all stripped. Compared to the projects I see here (Richard) seems like it would be a piece of cake.Has anyone tried this?

hi,
a friend of mine fitted a saab 99 / 900 sunroof as they have a very similar curvature on the roof like the p6.
