New Car - 1972 Mexico Brown 3500s

This first post was be to say Hello to everybody and say that I bought my first P6 2 weeks ago. A lovely 1972 Mexico Brown 3500S Mark 2 P6.

Drives great, runs well and sounds awesome. Until this morning there was only one problem which I was going to ask you guys about, a gearbox that pops out of 1st and reverse, and even if you hold it in 1st it grumbles.
But as I say this morning changed my priorities, 1 mile down the road on the way to work the bonnet catch failed and sent a rather large bonnet swinging towards me.

The good news - the car is fine, a little damage to the tops of the doors that extend into the bonnet line, but nothing to worry about.

The Bad news - The bonnet is creased where it rotated past the extend of the hinges. So far as to have torn the aluminium on the drivers side.

Therefore can I ask does anyone have a spare Mark 2 V8 bonnet lurking away that they don't want? Don't mind what colour, I have a spray shop waiting to sort that bit.

Please help.

I'll get some pictures on line tomorrow. Rest of the car looks great, just a rather rippled bonnet. :-(

Great news about them all being the same, that does at least open up the options.

Its not the end of the world as there was some bubbling on the leading edge a nice circle of corrosion on the N/S front.

Thanks Harvey, got to keep smiling I guess.
Can't believe how quickly it came up considering I must only have been doing about 20mph!!! Bit of a sail a P6 bonnet.
I'll get it striped down over the bank holiday anyway.

You're not the first it's happened to, and you won't be the last! I've sold loads of bonnets in the past for that very reason, and when I serviced the cars I would always pull the bonnet release in the car, then try and open the bonnet without touching the safety catch and a good percentage came straight up.A couple of minutes spent on the service adjusting it up properly may have saved the customer the cost of changing the bonnet sometime in the future.

Here are some pictures of the beast, if anyone out there can help source a Mexico Brown series 2 bonnet I would be very greatful.

My rover P6

Just tried to clean up the Kenlowe fan wouldn't even turn to start with, now sounds like it has gravel in it. Nice!
Any suggestions as to an alternative that will fit in the nose of a P6, I guess there are Peugeot fans that push but not convinced they will actually fit. Kenlowe want £150 for a replacement, unless anyone can point me in a better direction.
Thanks

i have abonnet its the one with the raised bits on it . its white and could do with a respray . im in scotland though but ur welcome to it

Kenlowe are the most expensive place to buy one of their fans from!!

I bought my Kenlowe fan through Moss.

i have a spare s2 bonnet in mexico brown, but it will definatley need a bare metal respray, it,s got the typical alloy errosion syndrome, but a good body shop should be able to sort it, i am also collecting another comlete p6 (minus engine/box) tomorrow,no idea what colour it is yet as i've bought it blind, :p,..keep you posted

Cheers guys, Thanks for the advice and offers. I'm waiting on an answer from a chap who is rather more local to me than scotland (I'm in Cambridgeshire :) ), But if I have no luck I'll be round a knocking.

So far my list of bonnets available is Wales and scotland, and none in Mexico Brown, there must be one a little closer especially if I'm going to respray it.

Been looking at paint and doing it myself, Paints4u seem fairly reasonable and can match the rover brown. Anyone had any experience or any other suggestions, mail order paint does seem the way to go.

I've had good experience with a seller on ebay Ebay Shop They list standard colours but also list paint mixed to any colour. Most paint shops will do that for you, check your yellow pages for a local auto-paint supplier.

Gentlemen,

I took my 1969 "white" P6 to a Paint Factors today and he used his swatches to find my "white" and made me 3 x 500ml Aerosol cans at what I consider a good price. He is called NUAGAIN and is in Bedford town centre.
