New Bump Stops - Help

I have just discovered that Ron is lacking his rear bump stop rubbers, the mounting plates are there, but the rubber stops have gone. I have purchased 2 very suggestive bump stops (remember Madonna's bustier moments ?, disgracefull on a Rover).

Question; how do I get the old mounting plates off , are they held on by captive nuts ? am I likley to rip the nut off the body and open a whole new can of worms ?(bad experiences here).
Has anybody tried an alternative approach..... like glue ?

Ron,
These consist of a flat plate, on which the original rubber was bonded, which has a screw thread on the opposite side.
So, straighten any flaps on the periphery of the flat plate which may have been bent over to lock the assembly in place and unscrew using the old screwdriver and hammer method.
Hope this helps, Regards, John.

Thanks guys

I'll try "gently" tapping off the old mounts first, and if it wo'nt budge I'll use plan b, cutting the rubbers off the new mounts and glue them on.

In the past, when confronted with a rusty nut on a captive bolt, I just got out my longest spanner and heaved, the nut came off, complete with bolt and a few inches of body panel ! I'm sure most people have been there, just that I dont want to again if I can help it !!.

This is going to sound mad but here goes.

Would some one send me a picture of their Bump stops in situ.

MOT tester picked me up on it as they are missing. I had a peek about but couldn't see the mounting point for them. I don't rememeber seeing them, so a picture just for a reference.

The turrets have probably completely rotted! Happened to me years ago. A small tin can can be fixed as a bodge, I did this and it was fine - never had a problem with MoT's or suspension bottoming out and I used this car (2000SC) as a tow car.

Try it

Thanks gary.

I had a good look and the turrets haven't rotted off just the mounting plate for the rubber.

I will knock up a couple.

I was thinking that there was a shortage of posts this last week.

I also notice that there are members who read the post but never seem to chip in a couple of lines. You can tell because under the topics you get the names of recent visitors.

Anyway My bump stops. I knocked up a couple of plates with nuts tonight and welded them on. I must say I am happy with the job. And as a bonus I saved about £40 by not buying the repair sections from the suppliers and fitted them myself so that is a few more pennies saved. Just aswell as it cost me £75 for 4 bushes and the madonna influenced Bump stops.
